"nerd"

Pants pulled high, above the waist.

Rushing to class with the greatest of haste.

While wearing a belt and a pocket protector,

his braces set off any metal detector.

These stereotypes, as I’m sure you have heard,

are the ones that we use to define who’s a “nerd.”

But why do you act like a nerd’s such a freak?

Call her a suck-up, a loser, a geek?

I’ll tell you that “nerdy” is not all that bad.

In fact, being smart is the hottest new fad.

Just like it’s cool to like music or art.

It’s also in style to be geeky and smart.

I’ll admit that I have an addiction to math.

And tell chemistry jokes, even if you don’t laugh.

I think that physics is totally cool.

And it’s true --  I even look forward to school!

As you maybe can see, I like things to rhyme,

which is why I read Shakespeare in my free time.

On a rainy morning, if you were to look,

you’d find me curled up with my nose in a book.

That doesn’t mean I’m not normal like you,

I like food, sports, friends, and TV shows, too!

And I’ll tell you a secret -- there’s a nerd in us all.

In some it is big while in others it’s small.

So nerds of the world, let’s all celebrate!

Be proud you’re a nerd, ’cause it’s totally great!

The truth is that nerdy is now where it’s at.

I’m so glad to be who I am, and that’s that.
