Nervous

Oh what a satisfying feeling!

The end of the day, and all is at bay.
But in the quiet peace of my mind and soul,
And in the very depths of my heart,
If I listen closely I can hear but a faint cry of a silencing plea.

As I listen closer to this still, small sound,
I start to focus in on the message that it is trying to spell.
The message keeps growing louder and louder,
As if it is coming toward me with its battle cry.
My mind starts to wonder, “what is this I feel?”
And my stomach gains a sea-sickening feel
My head starts to spin as it grows louder and louder,
And I start to scrape the edge of the meaning to all this madness.

Louder and faster it comes at me,
Then at a moments notice, it starts to fade,
And then disappears.
And as I am left there,
My body all sorted-out,
I realize the feeling was nervousness itself.

But why was it nervousness I felt?
Why not sadness, or pain, or doubt.
It’s because of the rivalry occurring once a year,
When all come and gather,
And jab and sneer.
And I in the middle of an endless crowd,
Are being watched carefully by all those who care.

And at the end of all this commotion,
I will find my piece of quiet mind,
And focus on my goal,
As the silent plea comes forth once again.
