Neutrality Insults Our Humanity
These calls for neutrality
In the face of assault
Are an insult to us all
How dare you keep saying
Calm down
You're over-reacting
When your life too
Is in peril
Silencing us
To uphold the status quo
Won't make you
Any less dead
When it is your turn
To be the object of hate
Anger has a place
Its vilification
No more than a distraction
From the terrors inflicted
Upon all of us
For the benefit of the few
If you are not raging
As much as I wish
It didn't befall me to tell you
You may have lost your heart
Sacrificed to the gods of war
Who are no gods at all
But violent men hell-bent
On maintaining their superiority
Whatever the price
Ordinary folk
Understand the idea
Of a cost too great to bear
Ironically it is our ethics
That leave us vulnerable
To attacks from those shouting morality
When we all know it's really depravity
Driving the agenda of death and destruction
When property has more value
Than human life
When financial contracts
Trump human rights
None but ourselves can save us
Silence will only enslave us
Speak up while you still can
Before cutting out tongues
Is sold as a necessary surgical intervention
Unless you wake up
You'll be queuing for the privilege
Of relinquishing your voice
I ask you again
If you are not righteous
In your indignation
Have you lost your mind
Or has it been captured
The price your heart-flow
Disconnecting you
From all that is
For no more
Than a bag of hot air
