Never Alone
Once there was a little girl
She thought she alone in the world
Her whole life she hid behind a mask
To cover up her pain and sorrow
To keep her past at bay
To keep her sorrow away
She never knew she wasn’t alone
She never would have thought of someone
Someone who could understand her
Help her in her pain, help her through
She hid her pain away, deep down inside
She never let the light shine into her soul
Her pain lay in the dark, slowly consuming her
But she never could imagine how to let it out
To keep from eating her alive
But one day, that one little girl
She found that person
She could feel something inside her
It jumped and she opened up
Let her pain come up and out
It came bubbling out
And she expected his speech to fail.
She never knew she wasn’t alone
She never would have thought of someone
Someone who could understand her
Help her in her pain, help her through
She hid her pain away, deep down inside
She never let the light shine into her soul
Her pain lay in the dark, slowly consuming her
But she never could imagine how to let it out
To keep from eating her alive
But his speech did not fail
He helped her feel less lonely
She knew she found someone
Someone who could understand
Because of what he had gone through
He had suffered as she had
In a much different way
But he understood her pain
She never knew she wasn’t alone
She never would have thought of someone
Someone who could understand her
Help her in her pain, help her through
She hid her pain away, deep down inside
She never let the light shine into her soul
Her pain lay in the dark, slowly consuming her
But she never could imagine how to let it out
To keep from eating her alive
He could see she needed someone
Someone to stand beside her
For her to come to when she needed him
Someone to always be there
And he promised he would
He would always be there
To help her, to talk to her
She never knew she wasn’t alone
She never would have thought of someone
Someone who could understand her
Help her in her pain, help her through
She hid her pain away, deep down inside
She never let the light shine into her soul
Her pain lay in the dark, slowly consuming her
But she never could imagine how to let it out
To keep from eating her alive
That one little girl, she was never
Never all by herself
There was always someone to help
To understand her pain
She was never alone because
Because he suffered when she did
For her pain, he felt too
Every tear she cried, he did too
She was never, never alone.
