NEVER LOST

My mothers face is a map And if you follow every line, every road you will find one of us chuckleheads as the destination. Me, My brothers, Or my father. We are the source of each. But not each road was the outcome of unwanted construction. If you follow the the crinkled lines around her mouth, you will see the road made by laughing at so many of our mistakes. This sounds cruel on her part....had we not made so many mistakes. We were pretty stupid kids. All of us. Our father included. He's the biggest kid. If you follow the road by her eyes, it will lead you to the twinkle of pride in the center of her eyes that appears each time she shows off our family portrait to company. If you follow the four small permanent lines in the center of her forehead you will be led to the moments she ever worried about us; be it our asthma, chronic cough, pneumonia, allergies, black nail polish, news of enlistment, or job loss. My mother is also a shoulder and ear for those moments when it didn't matter that it was your mother and embarrassing to tell her why the boy in class was making you cry, you were just glad she would listen. She's also the kick in butt you get when you stayed on that shoulder too long. She is half warrior and half worrier. She is our pillar, all 5 feet of her. And although she may not know it, because she doesn't understand my English, and sometimes my Spanish doesn't do it justice, I love her and appreciate her very much. And regardless of how our world may change and how far my family and I may stray from one another, there is one thing I will always know for certain in this world; As long as we have my mother, we will never be lost.
