Never Satisfied, Never Pleased

Selfish desires
Thrive in our society.
Lurking in every human mind
Slowly
Slowly
Tearing all compassion away.

Everlasting scars on the heart
Are left with those infected.
Greed has touched every soul,
Every heart,
Every mind.

We take what we want,
No thought for the giver,
And only think of ourselves.

Greed has taken control.
Actions,
Thoughts,
Feelings,
Transform according to our desires.

We seem mindless,
But we hide.
We hide the face that we know,
All of our wishes have not truly satisfied us.
For this we need real emotions that cannot come from coveted objects.

We do not realize
The path of destruction we have left behind.
The people we have hurt.
The lives we have destroyed.

We come to believe,
Our selfishness will bring bliss.
We ignore all of the guilty feelings,
As if nothing is wrong.

One person can start the flame,
As everyone is penetrated.
Power
Land
Love
Loss
Knowledge
Wealth
Happiness
Are all enviable by others.

We yearn for the things we cannot have,
And spend a lifetime searching.
Searching for what can make us truly happy.

Greed is found in every person.
It lives and grows and changes.
We cannot easily overtake it,
For it impacts the world.
