Never Wilted
It wasn’t that long ago,
The day you gave me this rose.
You took me by the hands,
Smiled,
And kissed my nose.
We were by the big lake
And it was our anniversary.
I remember feeling butterflies,
Inside,
Like the day you asked to marry me.
But now that rose is the only thing I have of you,
And it’s starting to crumble away.
I grasp it when I’m lonely,
Sad,
And need to make it through the day.
I look into the mirror
Tears rolling through the folds of my face.
But then I see you,
Reflected.
And my heart begins to race.
This gives me comfort
And it helps me realize
That you are still with me,
For eternity,
So I’ll never say goodbye.
