Never Without
I'm alone.
I look around and I see no life.
I am alone.
Water, water and more water surrounds me,
Trees, trees, and more trees surround me.
I am alone.
But am I really alone?
I don't feel alone.
I try to find food to eat,
but there's nothing here to sustain me.
'Go to the tree that bares the widest width,'
I look around to find the source of the voice.
Am I going crazy?
'Go to the tree,'
The voice sprouts familiarity...
It's soft, still and clear.
I go to the tree in the middle of the jungle.
I don't see anything but the tree.
'Look up,'
I look up and see various fruits hanging from its limbs,
Ripe and whole.
I climb the tree and grab what I need.
I look to the sky and imagine a roof,
night is coming soon and I have no roof.
I wonder what to do for shelter and wait for the voice to answer.
'Don't worry, I will provide.'
I wait for further instruction and wait in the tree.
The sky is black and the temperature has dropped.
I feel protected and warm,
I do not need a blanket for warmth.
The next morning I wait for further instruction,
But I do not fear, for the voice will come.
'I am here,' it says.
'Who are you?' I ask.
'I am God, I am with you always.'
I may be alone,
But was I ever really alone?
