New Beginnings

I used to count the days until I leave,

But now I count those I have left.

Each day brings another memory

That I won’t easily forget.

A new journey, a new frontier,

A new chance to live and learn.

Life begins anew next year,

Yet it’s the past for which I yearn.

This is my first big step;

Before, I counted ‘til I was here,

But now I look back and regret

That I only counted year after year.

So now I count the days that remain

Until my new life, a new counting game.
