New Bennings
Spring is new beginnings.
A chance to live again, a time
to start over, I remember seeing you
for the first time, shimmering
light reflecting off the pond
in which you dipped your bare toe,
your blonde hair was long and curled
you smiled at me
Beautiful.
Spring is like you, perfect.
Summer is lively.
A time when beach balls roll in the breeze
and ocean waters beat rhythmically against
the shore, I remember watching you
as you laughed and danced in
the suns ever glowing brilliance,
for the first time in my life I actually felt
the need to smile, I felt…
Happiness.
Summer is like you, happy.
Autumn is peaceful.
As the crumpled leaves sway left and right
barely holding onto the tree limbs and eventually
falling to the ground, I remember lying with you
your soft skin so smooth and warm against mine,
startled as you looked at me and
told me what was coming
you were okay
Tranquil.
Autumn is like you, dying.
Winter is cold.
Like a nightmare that you are forced to
live through every day you wake up,
barely holding on you took my hand,
whispered to me
“you are…
Everything.”
She breathed, I cried.
Winter isn’t like you,
at least winter will come back someday…
Spring is new beginnings.
