The New F-Word

My mom shook me out of bed one day

And told me to get a life.

Having the most followers on tumblr

Isn’t going to get you into

Harvard, she proclaimed.

Neither is pulling all-nighters to finish

That chapter of fan fiction your favorite

“Author” finally posted.

My sister sat down next to me,

As we watched the Doctor and Amy embrace, and I began

To tear up over the progress of my ship,

And told me to let it go.

She said she was trying to give it to me easy

When she bluntly stated that I was never going to be in Gryffindor as a first year

Because there was no Gryffindor.

She sighed and tried to convince me

That camping outside the bookstore

With hobos-

Other fan girls and boys,

I interjected plainly-

Waiting with other desperate hobos for the eighth Harry Potter book

To come out was not going to get a guy to finally release me

From being held captive in the dungeon called my parents’ cupboard.

Besides, J.K. Rowling finished Harry Potter with

The seventh, she said.

It will NEVER come.

My best friend groaned as I pulled out

The latest installment of Game of Thrones.

Why can’t you

Just be NORMAL? she cried.

Why can’t you be like every other teenager

In this rich, white, high-heeled,

Anorexic, capitalistic school,

Stick your face into the latest iPhone,

And giggle about steroid-filled jocks, who steal

Prescription drugs from children with cancer, behind their backs?

Why are you the only one without

A boyfriend?

You cannot keep waiting for Sherlock Holmes

To take you to prom.

He’s simply a book character from

Some crack-addict’s imagination.

Well, pardon my French

Mother,

Sister,

My so-called quoteth, unquoteth best friend,

But you have brain of a pea molecule.

And that’s an insult to the pea.

And the molecule.

For your information,

I always have been in Gryffindor,

Have gotten the eighth book of Harry Potter

Through the thousand of chapters of fan fiction

On the beautiful internet,

And Sherlock Holmes has done so

So much more than

Take me to prom.

I-

We-

We have been lied to

And it is time to put our feet down:

No more being lied to.

No more saying that our reblogging and

Endless hours role-playing and replaying GIFs on

Tumblr is just a waste of time.

No more being told that the love we

Have with our favorite characters is

Not

Real.

No more letting people say that crying under our blanket while

We watch our shippings come alive- or more realistically,

Never ever come together and crumble- is

Just a “phase”.

Never be put down.

Because you’re different.

Don’t be discriminated

If you are a divergent

An elf

A warlock

A Johnlock

A zombie

A whovian

A Wizard

A Ravenclaw

An Iron Man

A “Hannibal Animal”

Or someone who still cries over that

Show that was cancelled years ago that

No one cares about.

We feel for your patheticness: a life

Well served.

Do not let people define you

                                                                                              `

Be proud of

What books and

Tv shows and movies

And the internet has

Molded you into.

Do not let fan girl-or fan boy-

Be the new F-Word.
