A New Form of Activism - Pacifism

Many people said Ignorance is bliss But that’s only because They’re business was at risk The trading of slaves And unpaid labor Could only be achieved If no one knew about the danger That it was causing To our rights That’s right People knew that knowledge Was the key to success And once you give a little There’s no hiding the rest If people knew about their rights There would be no oppressed But it only took One voice To change history And have African Americans rejoice that they were free I would like to shed some light On Bayard Rustin Because without his influence There never would have been a movement for equality and freedom All the things we take advantage of But many people didn’t live to see them Bayard Rustin spread his thoughts of pacifism And even organized The SCLC for civil rights movements He recognized That we lacked humanity And despite the Diverse Curse That was set upon this country For hundreds of years He found a commonality The strive for progression And societies well being Brought hundreds of people To realize The sins they were committing Not upon objects but people Real people Brothers and sisters Separated by race Discrimination became the enemy And co existence became the goal With harmony Not violence Hatred Or separation He helped a new form Of activism spread And ultimately saved A whole race from death

The importance of equality and freedom is necessary for any society to progress and an event so powerful such as the civil rights movement cannot be simply taught as 1 chapter of an American textbook. It is to everyone's benefit that we spread the word about the rights we are all entitled to in order to strive for a far more equal, fair and just society.
