New Kid

On September 1st of 2012,

A lot of things would change for myself.

My mom met my second dad,

And oh was it great,

But it meant we had to move to another state.

Freshman year began,

And I was definitely scared;

But as scary as it was,

It helped me get prepared.

Being the new kid was hard,

I wanted that to change.

I chose to start a new club,

So other new kids didn't have to feel the same.

I worked with administration,

Things started to come together.

Making even one new kid feel welcome,

Made me feel ten times better.

Now I'm a senior,

Off to college I go.

Leaving my high school behind,

Has become harder than anyone could possibly know.

Next fall I become Mizzou Tiger.

I'm more excited than words can say.

But I'm becoming a new kid again,

And it's scary in a million different ways.

I just have to remember how much I've grown,

And I know that everything will be okay.
