a new kind of lover

i woke up with a note stapled to my heart

with a set of to-do's

and number one was to tell you that

i love you.

i can't even begin to express

to you

how wrong that felt

because i didn't feel it in my heart;

i felt it in my head.

telling someone you love them

shouldn't feel like a chore

or a task,

whether it be the first time

or one of the last times.

i woke up with a note stapled to my heart

with a set of to-do's and

number one was to tell you that i love you,

but it's not true.
