A New Year
I wake up early in the morning,
I get dressed; then I go to school,
I catch the bus,
Ready to work,
And I work hard doing what I do.
But…but…about 11:30,
I sit down and I check the news,
26 people dead?!
My reaction?
Yeah, I’m devastated too.
Because they’re gone,
That means they aren’t here,
And I bet they were getting ready,
For the New Year.
Well the years not coming,
For them that year is gone,
Most of them only 6 and 7 years old,
That has to show something in this world is wrong.
My resolution?
Is trying to end the violence,
Because the hatred needs to stop,
And then be put to silence.
So no longer will I complain about going to school,
Because I know there are 20 kids out there,
Who would like to get up,
And do what I do.
My resolution,
Is to bring peace,
I’m not the MLK,
But I can still preach to the streets.
My resolution is change,
Because I can’t even begin to feel their pain,
We can emphasize,
And say that we care,
But we don’t know their feelings,
Because we weren’t there.
Our hearts broken,
Yet our spirits strong,
So as I think about the New Year,
I think how can the world continue moving on?
