new year, same feelings.

they say welcome to the new year
but nothing is different or new.
instead of you being here,
another month is ripped out,
the fire is beginning to disappear.

i couldn't leave you and walk
into the next year on a clean slate.
i found my feelings packed to
follow me as we change the date.

even as the months slip by,
my feelings will buy a ticket
to whichever direction i fly
off to, despite the attempt
to evaporate them dry.
