In The Next
I
In the next Second I will breathe
My heart will beat
My eyes will open – and close
My thoughts will turn
I -- in that Second, will continue to Live…
Live a life without definition
Live a life controlled by others
Live a life with no beginning -- or end
Live a life, that kills and smothers
II
In the next Minute I will succeed
My soul will heat
My passion will waken – and doze
My every feeling will burn
I – in that Minute, will Give…
Give everything I have into something small
Give my heart in a text, a tweet, a post
Give all that I love – that matters – all
Give to be ridiculed and destroyed – my most
III
In the next Hour I will proceed
My determination will become fleet
My aspirations will be humbled – and dare to suppose
My persona will learn
I – in that Hour, will Outlive…
Outlive the interest of a nation
Outlive the conviction of our youth
Outlive the morals of a generation
Outlive the value of the truth
IV
In the next Day I will believe
My opinion will become concrete
My decision will be put down in speech – and in prose
My bearing will become stern
I – in that Day, will Sieve…
Sieve through the accepted lies
Sieve through my own ideas and emotions
Sieve through the now – before it dies
Sieve through life and find its meanings
V
In a Second, a Minute, a Hour, a Day
I can define myself by others – or be Nothing
No More – Now, I find my own Way
I, find Myself -- to be Something
