The Next Best Thing

My musical talent never was up to par

All the other kids in the class could strum their guitar

And make it sound ok

But I was never one of them.

I still dreamed of sold out concerts

And screaming fans

But now that I'm older I've realized that, maybe,

I don't have to be a part of the band.

The one job that would bring me the most joy,

The next best thing,

Is waiting in the wings

Being the conductor of the show

Being the person who always knows

What to do next or where to go.

I want to be a band manager and watch a young band’s talent grow.

This is the first poem I've read in this contest and I love it.
