Night

I love to listen to the night
hear it roar in silent whispers
watch it fan a blazing fire
deep in the hours no one sees.

Empty words
voices huddled against the wind
the moon hangs low
and darkness invades your dreams.

The roll of thunder
a beacon on the horizon
colors bleed through their lines
the soft glow of light that beams.

All in a night's work.
