That Night

I saw you that night, the night you fell to pieces

I saw your smile, I saw your hair

Newly cut and styled--so unlike you

As if you woke up someone different

You were wearing makeup, laughing

And dancing and singing

I walked you home.

You didn’t say anything but thanks

I didn’t see you the next day

I thought you moved

Until i found the note in that jacket

The one you borrowed That night

The night you fell to pieces

You didn’t tell me

I was right there

You should have told me

You had been quiet

Going through things is what you said

For a long time

Until that night. The night you fell to pieces

But you were beautiful that night

Smiling and laughing and talking

You were living for that night

You weren’t thinking about tomorrow

‘Cause you knew it wouldn’t come

It’s how i’ll remember you

How you looked that night

The night you fell to pieces
