The Night

I bring about the darkness

that you see as the end

you go to bed and shield your eyes

from pains you put me in

I bring about the darkness

the one that sends you off

yet still you dream of light,

for I am nothing but a trough

I bring about the darkness

amazing but not complete

because for you I’ve made the stars and moon

and this I would repeat

I bring about the darkness

I steal you from the light

I swaddle you so gently

so no more you’ll have to fight

I bring about the darkness

I am the bottom line

I do these things because I care for your happiness,

not mine
