Night

Rouse yourself from restless sleep

Shivering, sheets soaked with sweat

Your eyes sting, tired and terrified,

You're a moth that is caught in a net.

If you struggle, your pain will last longer,

But by lying there, slip into sleep

Where night is no friendlier fellow,

Where all you can run from is sheep.

These fleeting meetings with fear

Seem slight, but everyone knows

That nightmares know best what you dread,

That they come from the depths of your woes.

Hold tight and light will come shortly.

Though tired, you will have survived

Through dreams which labor to end you

Through the horror your mind has contrived.
