Night Before Christmas

T’was the night before Christmas in the Ovelgonne house. We were all in a rush except for my spouse.

Our family was dressed in our Christmas attire to attend midnight mass and sing with the choir.

The church was adorned with poinsettias galore. Fr. Sean delivered the good news of the Lord!

The most peaceful time in church you see, is when Anthony & Kassidy listen with glee.

As our family gathers on this holy night, we rejoice in the birth of our Savior Jesus Christ!

The children were silent and filled with delight in hopes that St. Nicholas would soon visit tonight.

After mass ended, we shook Fr. Sean’s hand. He is indeed… a well spoken man!

We hurried back home to get ready for bed & wouldn’t you know Kassidy saw Santa’s sled.

Champ was growling and guarding our house. Tony went outside to check everything out.

Anthony and Kassidy fell fast asleep. I opened my shutter’s to sneak a quick peek.

My eyes grew big as I took a long pause…. Why, I do believe it’s the real Santa Clause.

It was indeed the jolly old man and I couldn’t believe what I saw in his hand.

Tony and Santa were sharing a smoke. I wanted to intrude thinking this all was a joke!

I looked through my shutters, squinting real hard, I noticed Rudolph marking his territory in our front yard.

I gathered a plate of cookies to put under the tree, when Tony rushed in, “You must come and see.”

Santa was hanging out with all his reindeer and our dog's Champ & Annabelle with their hair spiked in fear.

I walked outside and said “How do you do? I can’t believe that I am meeting the real you.”

“Hello there Kim, I’ve been visiting for years. Your cookies are tasty but I’d rather a beer.”

I said, “It's a pleasure to meet you but I better go to bed.” My head was feeling dizzy and my face was turning red.

I lay down in bed to rest for the night wondering if what I had witnessed was right.

When out in the den there arose such a clatter! I sprang from my bed to see what was the matter.

I ran to the fireplace in shock to see Santa's rear end staring back at me.

Next thing you know, we are trying to help. All of a sudden he let out a big YELP.

“Why didn’t you go in through our front door?” He replied, “I am Santa Claus need I say more.”

We wiggled and shimmied and finally pulled him out! He is a big fellow and never did pout.

We thanked him as he said “I must be on my way.Tell the kids Merry Christmas & happy holidays.”

He blew on his whistle, flashed on his sleigh lights and pulled on the reigns with great power and might!

He then chuckled, “Ho, Ho, Ho, Merry Christmas to all and to ALL a good night.”
