Night Drive For An Intermission

Night Drive for an Intermission

Til the tank is empty

And my throat stops burning

From swallowing too many words

That I don’t want to regret

I needed to spit out the remnants

of thoughts that slipped past my esophagus.

I placed them in porcelain

Not in your face, love,

Like most others would do.

I cannot be mad at you.

I don’t know where I am going

I know I have to leave

To save me from myself

From being too naïve.

I don’t know when I will be back

But I am coming back.

Because I know you

And you are sorry

Because I know me

And I just love you too much to care.
