The Night I Can’t Wait For

The mirror catches every glance,

I check my smile, adjust my stance.

A little laugh escapes my lips—

My heart’s already doing flips.

I pick the dress that feels just right,

Not too bold, but full of light.

I brush my hair with careful care,

Each strand falling like a prayer.

The clock ticks on but time feels slow,

A secret only I can know.

I pace the room, then stop to grin,

Imagining what might begin.

The butterflies are doing cartwheels,

A dizzy dance my chest reveals.

My hands feel warm, my cheeks are flushed,

A quiet storm inside me rushed.

I check my phone, then check once more,

Wondering what tonight’s in store.

Will you smile like I imagine?

Will time fly by in sweet expansion?

I try to calm the rising tide,

But giddiness I cannot hide.

The thrill of “us” just out of reach,

Like lessons love has yet to teach.

I pick a song, then hum along,

A soundtrack for a night so strong.

Every little moment seems to say,

“This is the start of a perfect day.”

Shoes by the door, purse in hand,

A moment caught I hadn’t planned—

That tiny spark before we meet,

The way my heart begins to beat.

Outside the night is soft and clear,

But all I hear is your voice near.

Though you’re not yet in my sight,

I’m wrapped in warmth, and glowing light.

Tonight’s the night where stories start,

When giddy nerves become the heart—

The thrill, the hope, the sweet unknown,

That makes a simple date feel like home.
