Night Light

Scared to turn off the lights before bed
Why?
So when you awake at random times
You'll see that you're still alone
You're still safe
If you know that you're alone
Why is it so hard to turn off the lights
And trust that?
Trust that I'm alone?
Trust that no monsters will get you, if you turn off the lights
I can't see what would happen though
If something could be lingering
For just one night
Turn off the lights
Maybe you'll see it's not so bad
You'll get used to it
And not have to live in fear
Doesn't that sound nice?

I'm not afraid of the dark, I'm afraid of not being alone
Someone being right next to me to hold my hand would make it better
But what if that someone is watching me instead
Waiting to attack
What if not everyone is out to get you?
What if you'd be okay
Living in the dark
