A Night to Remember
At a quarter to seven, he arrives at my door,
We walk up to the building, excited, unsure,
We pause for a moment, he points out the way,
As we enter the room, the previews start to play.
Been waiting for months to see this premiere,
So ready to watch it it’s finally here,
The love of these movies i’m so glad we share,
He says something dorky, I ruffle his hair.
The light from the screen sets his smile a glow,
So much that could happen, so little to know.
While he runs to the bathroom, I go grab snacks and drinks,
The lights fully dim as we retake our seats.
His hand goes in mine as we’re watching the show,
My head’s on his shoulder, his heart beats, not slow.
My mind starts to race while the cast list rolls,
I try to reign my thoughts back into control.
The lights come up, we pick up our things,
Through the exit, cold wind, and a chill sets in.
From his genuine heart, not at my request,
He shrugs off the jacket I think fits him best.
We talk for a while, I was cold, now we’re warm,
Our collision of thoughts is a beautiful storm.
We get in the car, the radio strong,
He knows all the words to my favorite songs.
Now back at home, we walk to the porch,
His big, bright green eyes shine like a torch.
We stay outside for a minute more,
My hand strays from the closed, front door.
I’m thankful for the colder weather,
And give him back his big, warm leather.
A ticket stub, a goodbye hug,
I’m crazy, so soon but this could be forever
This is all I can think of while he’s down on one knee,
When he tells friends and family I’m his bride-to-be,
That this wonderful journey now will never end,
That I’m spending my life with my one true best friend.
As I walk down the aisle, and see his wide smile,
It takes me back a thousand miles,
Down memory lane, back to highschool, so far
How this life can have endings so grand, so bizarre.
How one simple night was so perfect and special,
That one little theatre could be so monumental,
That this isn’t a dream, this feeling, this dress,
That tuxedo, our promises, our ever-perfect mess.
