The Night Sky

Staring at the night sky,

the stars would twinkle.

The moon shone its light

and my eyes would crinkle.

My dreams ran wild,

and my thoughts would fly,

as everything came to life

in the starry night sky.

Staring at the night sky

with very few stars to gaze.

The moon was hidden

and its light just a haze.

I struggled to fathom

the significance of this change

as my time with the sky grew shorter

and my mind went on a rampage.

Staring at the night sky,

the stars lacked their luster.

The moon’s light was dim

as the clouds would cluster.

I hardly looked up

as my mind was too busy

to even stare up at the stars,

my life in a frenzy.

Staring at the night sky,

I do once in a while.

I’ll see the moon shining

and I’ll happily smile.

I remember the days

like it was last night

As the moonlight shines

Upon me, forever bright.
