Night terrors
Some days the voices rage violently in my head
Screaming out my darkest thoughts as I lay quietly in bed
Words of self doubt, misplaced trust, and self hatred run amuck
Trying to refrain from falling prey to their attacks with no luck.
Mind scrabbling to find the good in the bad
Or anything really to keep me from going mad.
It's always so cold when I'm alone in the dark
Shivering with fear like a kid left alone in a park.
My body paralyzed as my imagination runs rampant
I feel disgusting, and slimy like water that remains stagnant.
Everyway I turn I seem to sink deeper as if I'm walking in quick sand
I hyperventilate again and again hoping for someone to reach out and take my hand.
For a while there is nothing more than an echoing silence
Then I am ripped from the pit of despair like an act of violence.
I can breathe again
No longer tortured by the darkness within.
Seemingly severed from my mind like hair from the skin.
And just like hair the troubling days will come again.
