Nightime Kisses
My mother doesn't kiss my head anymore
She doesn't put me to bed anymore
My father doesn't lift me to his shoulders
He doesn't move my boulders
The independence I've asked for
Brought its own scar
Hidden in the folds of my blanket
Its not security in the thread
Its broken
Torn and tattered
And i was only taught a few stitches
So how do i become smart enough to know all the niches
To patch back the pieces
Or is this the shawl ill carry from now on
On my shoulders will it rest just to cover me none at all
And when the rain hits ill have to curl into a ball
To keep from getting beaten by each and every drop
I wont know how to avoid it
I cant find the shelter
So ill stand in the rain and swelter
The heat of my anger taking over
Unless someone can help me
Maybe that is me
Maybe ill find the ability
To let go of the pieces
And find a recess
From all the drops of water that hit me cheeks and falter
Ill become better
Ill reach to the stars and take shelter
In my own healed body
And know im somebody
Ill get up and crawl
Not afraid to fall
When i finally start walking
And no one is left mocking
Me and my bare body
Scars will be my bawdy
Ill wear them proud
Now im floatimg on a cloud
Of my own importance
My self resonance
Im a proud resemblance
Of my own confidence
