Nightly Lost Thoughts
I stay up late and ponder,
Wounder,
What would happen if I wasn’t me?
Who then would I be?
I am me
And all I’ll ever know and see
Why am I here?
Why is anyone?
Is all we are meant to do is be born, stay alive, then die?
Our existence is so small compared to the sublime power of the world
The solar system,
The galaxy,
The universe,
Always expanding, constantly growing,
Going on and on and on
Forever and always,
As far as we know,
And how can we know?
We have only existed for a short time in this vast, unending, place.
So this I think,
And contemplate
As I lay awake at night.
