Nightmares

In the night, you scream with fright

you hold your breath all too tight,

for in the night, lurk shadows of the past,

you remember of those gruesome nights,

you try to fight those scary dreams,

that lurk inside your head,

waiting to come out, and that is

why you scream with agony,

and stricken with grief,

you tear at your flesh, to get

rid of your past, to prepare for your future

but when the future is present, they

lurk in the shadows of the past

waiting for the right moment, to strike

those horrid moments come back,

the past haunts the present,

and that is why, for in the night

you scream with fright, and hold your breath,

all too tight.
