Nighttime Pondering

Crickets and distant cars

an  evening melody

and I remember a year ago

when we were in the yard

looking at the stars

and wishing on the meteors

and I wondered if you'd hold my hand

but it was fine you didn't

you just being there was enough

and tonight I wonder where you are

if you're happy

and if you ever listen to the crickets

and look at the sky

and remember the time

when every star was ours

and we were everything.
