With no Emotion

"Teacher, Teacher!" called out the 8 year old raising her hand

curious to know why someone so old was so mean

old people are supposed to be nice and give you candies

perhaps her time teaching stripped her too

stripped of no emotion other than cruelty

"Why are we doing this?" asked the 9 year old

eyes brimming with tears with a sign on her chest

a sign reading some very embarrassing things

a public humiliation, out of no where, for the whole class

"a demonstration in slavery" she explains after its over

why do we need a demonstration when we live some form of it everyday

"She's so grouchy" whispered the 10 year old, turning up her nose

she eats and eats, glares and glares, barks and barks, unfair to the fair

"You can't participate in the choir recital if you don't get better in math."

the 10 year old's eyes turn glassy, singing is her favorite, math is not, no one will help

Same kinds of teacher, almost every year

one by one stripping us of emotion as they strip themselves as well

"So, how can you even stand here knowing you are just adding to our stress, hindering our creativity?'

the 17 year old High School senior inquired, a quirk in her eyes, sass in her tone

"Well education is key" is all he retorts

he doesn't mention conforming to society is better with no emotion

following the rules is better with no creativity, no heart

how do you strip someone entirely and look them in the eyes

with no emotion
