No Escape
Here I am, in the 21rst century,
This is the time where you can be free,
think what you want,
say what you feel,
do as you please,
But…
They lied.
Everyday I apply my concealer and foundation.
you cant have any blemishes they said,
you need to draw on your eyebrows they said
you need to fake you appearance they said.
they said they’ll accept me if I do what they said,
they said being different was wrong...
they forced me to be like them.
We run free in a world where social media is the dictator.
he told me to filter my face with pounds of make-up,
he told me to filter my words and speak when being asked.
he told me to filter my thoughts with the medias truth,
But social media embodies real people with artificial filters.
the pictures I post aren’t of who I truly am.
the words I speak aren’t of what I truly think.
the person I am, isn’t truly me.
Grabbing the towel, I try to remove the filter they forced on me,
But without the filter…
I am nothing.
I’ve been living a lie,
the lie; the filter
I see no life with out the filter.
Without the filter….
without the guidelines
without the rules
I am nothing.
He took away my life,
but now that I want it back,
but when I look at myself,
I hear their opinions,
I speak what they want me to say,
I’m nothing with out the filter because the filter is no longer the artificial,
There's no escape.
We’ve morphed,
become one.
I turned into the filter society wanted.
