No Excuses
I asked why you had to hold me so tight
When he looked my way
“Because I love you…”
You say
I asked why you said my dress was too short
Why I had to change
“Because I love you…”
I asked why you had a second bottle to drink
And then a third
And a fourth
“Because I love you…”
You slurred
I asked why
I asked why
I asked why
Why you kissed so hard
Why you stayed out so late
Why you can’t look me in the eye
“Because I love you…”
I had to leave
I had to go
I couldn’t fall no more and wait
For the day I finally hit the ground
Because I love you
And when you asked why I left
I bucked up and said
“Because I love you is not an excuse.”
