No Filter
The flash creates a shadow across my face.
One that ignores the contouring that I have done
To make my face appeal more to your eye.
But why?
Why do I even care if I impress you?
A Stranger? With no effect on my life?
I’ve got hair that falls straight
Without the help of a burning item
To the middle of my back.
It’s thick and brown
And all my friends love it.
I’ve got eyes that bore into souls
With a dash of warmth.
Try getting that to show through a filter.
They’re brown; like milk chocolate.
And just right for my face.
I’ve got skin that is clear
Well, for the most part.
I tan easily throughout the summer
And keep most of it for the winter.
Beat that, you washing out flash!
But what those photos don’t tell you
But what those photos can’t tell you
But what those photos won’t tell you
Is how I drop everything for those I care about.
Is how I fill my mind with the words of the poets that came before me.
Is how I far I’ve come since my lowest point.
But what those photos don’t show you
But what those photos can’t show you
But what those photos won’t show you
Is how I make my cousins smile when I babysit.
Is how I give up my time to pass out food.
Is how I try so hard to you everything for everyone.
But me? Just me?
I am a human being
Who doesn’t need a filter.
