No greater love
One warm sunny morning, on Easter day
I awoke to the song of a Blue Jay
Running down the stairs, I knew what I’d see
A full basket of candy, just for me
I turned the corner, and saw a queer sight
There was no basket of treats, not one bite
The table, though, was not completely bare
I found a man, calmly sitting there
He turned to me, and with a smile said
“This morning we will have water and bread”
On the table, it suddenly appeared
Chocolate eggs were not for breakfast, I feared
He picked up the loaf, then reverently tore
And the water was just a sip, no more
We then partook, after a humble prayer
A warmth grew inside, a feeling so rare
I don’t know why, but tears started to come
He reached out, dismissing them with his thumb
I remembered him then, deep in my heart
And the plan, in which he played great part
He was my Savior, King, and Brother too
“My child,” he said, “I did it all for you”
He lit up with a smile, as did I
For sorrow was not the reason to cry
All the pain he had to bare, now was gone
Glorious, wondrous, beautiful third dawn
He saw I understood, and rose to leave
Then said, “The gift of new life, please, receive”
Since that Easter morning, many years ago
I’ve remembered that gift he did bestow
Because of the Savior, I fear not death
I live to the fullest, with every breath
Following his example, every day
I have no doubt; he’s with me all the way
