No Longer Afraid To Speak

To tell the truth, it’s been really hard,

Keeping up my head, staying strong.

Getting through the days and ignoring so much hate,

When will this loathing finally take a break?

Time goes by and things still remain the same,

Who knew that history would never ever change?

Stand up for what you believe in,

Shoulders tall and straight.

Momma said don't be afraid to be the only one awake.

The only one awake. Wide awake.

Awake and aware of the problems left and right,

And building up the strength to keep up the fight.

Aware of who you are and who you want to be,

Speaking out of term when necessary.

She taught me young to always watch out,

People are never who they say they are.

She said you will be judged all day and night,

But that shouldn’t be the reason you stay out of sight.

Be confident in yourself and proud of who you'll be,

It’s okay to cry, just remember to breathe.

Do it for your family, do it for your friends,

Have faith in your voice and you shall win.

Speak loud and louder and the loudest you can,

So everyone in the world can help you take a stand.

A stand against hate.

A stand against violence.

A stand against anything making you defiant.

A stand for freedom.

A stand for justice.

A stand for peace, love, and no more losses.

Now I look up to the sky,

And see what I accomplished.

I no longer see a girl who would crawl back in silence.

I look up to the sky and say one last thing,

With my eyes sharp, voice roaring, I scream:

YOU CAN’T SHUT ME DOWN,

FOR I WILL ALWAYS BE HEARD!

AS I STAND UP TALL, STRONGER THAN BEFORE.

TRY YOUR BEST, I DARE YOU, BUT YOU WILL NEVER SUCCEED,

THE HATE YOU GIVE WILL NO LONGER AFFECT ME!
