No Longer A Kid

When everything in life had faded and been replaced

I knew then I was no longer a kid

When bikes turned to cars

And pennies filled jars

Life became hard

And I knew then I was no longer a kid

Smiles no longer lived on my face

Instead, a plethora of feelings took their place

And as negative reflections permeated my brain

I knew then I was no longer a kid

I sought after sleep, I let it consume me

Rather than kicking and screaming “One more cartoon please!”

And as I reminisced cherished memories

Rather than live in the today

I know now I am no longer a kid
