No Longer A Kid Anymore.
I realized I was no longer a kid anymore when he lied to me.
He told me he adored me, that I was his only bride-to-be.
Although I didn’t realize it at the time, his endless lies and rants
Were just his failed attempts to get in my pants.
You see, I was raised to save this very important thing
For when the right man gives me a very important ring.
But for him, I considered turning my back on all I believed in;
He begged me to give it up just as he was leaving.
He made me think that by doing this, I’d show him my love and dedication,
That by rejecting my values and giving it up, I’d save him from the medication.
And for a brief moment, I came so close to abandoning this treasure,
For an even briefer moment of his stupid pleasure.
Mental illness is never something you should use against others;
And I can’t believe I didn’t listen to my brothers
When they told me that I should watch where I step with you
Because you, my friend, were way too good to be true.
When he left and it ended, I cried on the kitchen floor,
Wondering if I’d be able to live my life anymore.
In hindsight, I should’ve known that manipulation was in store;
And that is how I realized I was no longer a kid anymore.
