No love

Friend:
Why do you hate yourself?

Me:
What? I don't hate myself.
How could I hate myself when everybody around me reminds me of all my flaws?
How could I hate myself when love is uncool and hate is "in"
How could I hate myself when the people that surround me already do it for me?
How could I hate myself when I am constantly reminded on how bad I am and how I could never be anything in life?
How could I hate myself when I know that the one thing I want to do in life, I probably won't be able to do?
How could I hate myself when most of my teen and adult years will most likely, like everybody else's, be filled with sadness, depression, anxiety and hate?
How could I hate myself when everybody else hates themselves?
How could I hate myself when you hate yourself?
How could I hate myself if... Oh wait I do hate myself.

Friend:
Why do we hate?

Me:
The real question is, why can't we love?
