No mark

I am wounded But I wear no mark It lies deep within Where no solace can reach I carry it with me Always, everywhere Through every year Through every joy It remains Time has softened the edges Yet it still cuts Once a scream in my ears Now a whisper to my heart It is an empty place where a dream once lived A loss no searching can recover A bruise that cannot be salved A weight that denies rest It lives within me Its days outnumber mine
