No More

Walls close in on her

She trembles, afraid, alone
Nightmares plague her nights,
Reality haunts her days
She flinches at every touch, every sound
Like an injured animal, terrified
Screams fill the air
Pain consumes her
Daily she faces horrors untold,
Daily her soul is crushed

And my life, so vividly different in contrast
My soul, so naive and innocent
Yet I do nothing to help her
Nothing to save her
My ignorance, my pride
Withhold me from taking action,
Excuses in hand

But... No more
No more shall she lay awake night after night,
Strange men surrounding her
No more shall she wake up screaming and crying,
Bedsheets twisted and torn
No more shall she stay hopeless,
Even after her rescue
And no more shall she wish for death,
Emotionally damaged, physically safe

When finally she’s able to move on, scarred yet strong,
I will turn to face the countless others, ready to right the wrong
