No More Than This
My mind and blood burn within me,
My tongue yearns to sing Your praise,
But the notes I sing all fall flat.
The words I know do not express you rightly.
Yet I come to Your Church and sit in your presence,
And the words come, from neither heart nor mind, but soul.
Those words, from the soul You gave to me, still cannot express all that You are.
Still they cry my love and faith in You.
To You my words are sweet.
To You my notes ring in Your reflected splendor.
To You my gift is as fair as an angel choir.
I ask no more than this.
I see Your might in the mountaintops,
I hear Your breath in the wind,
I feel Your love in a kind embrace,
Everything around me sing of You,
Your power, Your light, Your love,
But I alone stand mute and dumb
Struck silent by Your awe.
To You my words are sweet.
To You my notes ring in Your reflected splendor.
To You my gift is as fair as an angel choir.
I ask no more than this.
For You I give my life, O Lord,
All that I do is in praise of Your love.
My words, my thoughts, my deed, my dreams
Show forth Your reflected glory.
For You I spin my meager tales.
For You I craft my ill-made rhymes.
For You I sing my fluting notes.
And,
To You my words are sweet.
To You my notes ring in Your reflected splendor.
To You my gift is as fair as an angel choir.
I ask no more than this.
