No More

This was where the first years kept their projects Excited by brand-new prospects This is where the second years kept theirs Enthralled by them and wanting to share This was the space for years three and four And yet, now there are no projects to store. The lonely marcher upon the wall Seems to be neglected by all You see a haphazardly stacked pile of junk when you turn on the light And the chalk board that no longer writes If you listen closely there is a haunting whisper of a chord Of the instruments that can play no more. On almost empty risers stand people who don't even care To fill up their schedules is the only reason they are there No program because there's no one who will go When you have no people you can't have a show No more love of singing, our friend is long gone Only she could bring the feelings we needed for our song. Another canceled program that accepted kids for who they are No group that helps you live on a farm Teaching life lessons, leadership, and all Teaching future leaders to step up to the call No more driving a tractor to school And no group to think that farming is cool Everywhere you go it's a cold, cold place When I look around I see maybe on friendly face Our programs we once loved we lost, and it's hard I feel as though they should send every one of us a condolence card Everyone goes running for the doors 'Cause no one wants to be in school anymore.
