No One Snaps for the Mirror
You spoke poetry about seeing
with your eyes wide open.
My heart is a window left wide
open.
I am constantly catching a chill
that shivers my floorboards.
My floorboards are my rackety,
crackity bones that never seem
to heal when they're broken.
Maybe I'll always stay broken like
a mirror placed back together
My veins are the cracks running
across my reflection
I never want to look too long in
fear of what I'll see
It's like Bloody Mary when I was
thirteen
I'll say my name three times and
shut the light on and off hoping
to see a different me
My heart is a window left open
never closed
We are all left unclothed by the
truth of a mirror
"Look past the cracks" say our
lovers
"You are whole" say our friends
Yet we look for only a second,
afraid to drop our mirror again
It's like a stubbed toe, or a bitten
tongue
Maybe that's why the percentage
of people who are sent to wards
is low and that of the ones who
return are high
Maybe we're all trying to find a
high off of anyone, anything that
we let crawl through our
window.
I want to close that damn window,
I want to mend the cracked me,
But I can't seem to find a reflection that suits who I wish I
could be.
