no preparation for a realization

whispers traveled around town
and bounced off of cement,
into walls,
passed through amblers' legs,
and jumped into my ear.

i paid no mind for half a second until i heard, "the man dressed in darkness is here".

i looked up, and he was there (as dark as ever) waiting for me.
i looked away, preparing myself for whatever it was that he wanted.
i looked up, caught a glimpse of the brightness in his eyes.
i looked away, frustrated that I hadn't prepared myself enough.

he smiled, laughed, then tugged on my shirt sleeve.
he smiled, laughed, then tugged on {his} shirt sleeve.

in and through his chest went his fingers.
out and in front of me was his heart -
a supernova.

upon realizing that there were stars in him, i asked, “where are the stars in me?”
