No Regrets

Long ago I was a frightened, naive young girl

New to all things adult, our paths met

Your life experiences were exciting, insightful, inspiring

My interest in you was immediate

Our friendship was natural

Every moment we spent together was in earnest

Two people sincerely opening up to one another

The more pages I read to you, the more I wanted to read about you

Every page you fed to me I consumed raw, unabridged

Feelings within me rippling under the surface

I kept them to myself

Naive, frightened, young, uncertain

Your demeanor remained the same, our friendship only grew

Then there was the night of temptation

You wanted one thing while I another

But I still remained silent

The time we spent together that day wasn't enough

For either of us

Yet our friendship stays strong

And I don't have a single regret

Because now I know

My heart has been taken by someone who respects me

Someone who knows me

Who I can trust

And yet I don't have any regrets

Because you taught me that

You taught me to live life for all it's meant to be

Uncensored, unabridged, real, true

We still have a close friendship that I'm not willing to tamper with

Our conversations are often mundane

Sometimes the ordinary is the best thing for a relationship

I'm still frightened and naive

But I'm no longer that inexperienced young girl

You showed me how to be the woman I want to be

I'm still frightened and naive

But I have no regrets

Whatever we are meant to be is more than enough for me

Because after all, we are just two people

We both have our needs, our desires, our connections

We both have it all

And we both have no regrets
