No Renewal

You’re in every one of my poems

Sneaking into the spaces in between

The words I write or type

Are calling out your name.

Every syllable is about our past

Every word written has a secret message

Reading out loud my poems

Will make my heart skip a beat for you.

Nothing is better the second time around

So I’ll give you the first time illusion

Make sure my pieces are fresh

So they don’t all sound the same.

But all heartbreak sounds the same to me

I’m trying so hard to give you a new tone

A new tune for this old song

Our story though can’t be renewed

I wish I could check you out one last time

But our love is no fairytale in a book

So I’ll just reread the memories

And I’ll finally let you go and be.
